Your RV needs to go somewhere when it's not on the road. There are two main options: storing your RV at a facility or on your property. Both approaches have advantages and the right fit for you depends on your priorities, such as budget and available space.

Keep reading to learn more about the RV storage options. If you have questions, want to discuss camper storage options, or want to shop RVs for sale, contact Airstream of New Mexico. Our dealership is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and we also serve those in Santa Fe and Las Cruces.

RV Storage Options - At Home

RV owners may be able to keep their camper in one of two locations on their property: the garage or the driveway/backyard.

The Garage

This option only works for smaller campers, such as tent trailers, Class B motorhomes, and teardrop trailers. The rig needs to fit through the garage bay width, after all!

Pros

  • Free.
  • Easy camper access.
  • Protection from the elements.
  • Protection from potential thieves and vandals.

Cons

  • Takes up space that could otherwise go to a vehicle, garden equipment, and so on.
  • Can be difficult to get the camper in and out of the narrow bay width.

The Driveway/Backyard

If the garage isn't an option, you may be able to keep your camper somewhere else on your property. Just be sure to look up local laws on the subject so you don't accidentally park it somewhere you shouldn't.

Pros

  • Free.
  • Easy RV access.
  • Keeps garage available for other items.

Cons

  • Weather exposure, which can lead to damage and repairs.
  • Higher chance of vandalism or theft.

RV Storage Options - At A Facility

Camper owners can also pay to store their RV at a facility. There are a few different options available with facilities.

Uncovered Storage

Here, the camper will be parked in a lot without a protective structure.

Pros

  • Most affordable option.
  • The size of the RV won't be an issue.
  • Frees up space on your property.

Cons

  • Weather exposure.
  • Must go pick up the RV before a trip.

Covered Storage

This involves parking the RV inside a carport-like structure.

Pros

  • Better protection than uncovered storage.
  • Frees up space at home.

Cons

  • Costs a bit more than uncovered storage.
  • Need to get the camper before a vacation.

Enclosed Storage

Here, the RV is kept secure inside an enclosed space. Some RV storage facilities will even offer climate-controlled or temperature-controlled spaces.

Pros

  • Best protection against the elements.
  • Best protection against thieves and vandals.
  • Frees up storage space at home.

Cons

  • Highest cost.
  • Must grab the camper before going on a trip.

RV Storage Facility Perks

Besides RV storage, some facilities offer extra features that can make your life easier.

For example, we can pick up your camper and take it to the storage space. We also can handle the RV winterization process, getting it ready for long-term storage and taking it out of winter storage before your first trip of the spring.
